Waxed Canvas and Leather Tote (Wednesdays @ 12pm | March 11 - April 1)

Course Cost: $200 + hst + materials

Prerequisite: DIY 1 & 2

  • Create a classic, durable tote bag that combines utility with timeless design. This project uses a waxed canvas upper paired with a leather (or alternative) base, giving the bag both structure and style. Students will add a fully lined interior with a zippered pocket for secure storage, as well as both short handles and a detachable crossbody strap for versatile carrying options. The result is a professional-quality tote that’s equally at home as an everyday carryall or a polished work bag.

    • Cutting and assembling heavy-weight fabrics and leather (or vegan alternatives)

    • Techniques for sewing waxed canvas and lining fabric

    • Installing a fully lined interior with a zippered pocket

    • Attaching handles using rivets in leather or webbing for durability and style

    • Constructing and attaching a detachable crossbody strap with hardware

    • Professional finishing techniques to ensure strength and longevity

    • 0.5m Waxed Canvas (Upper)

    • Leather or alternative material for bag base, handles, and strap (webbing optional for handles/strap)

    • 0.5m Lining Fabric (medium weight cotton)

    • One standard zipper for interior pocket

    • Crossbody strap hardware (D-rings, swivel clips, and adjustable slider)

    • Rivets or Chicago screws (if using leather handles/strap)

    All materials for this class are available at our studio. We recommend purchasing materials 15 minutes before your class starts to ensure you have everything you need.
